ABOUT MARK POWERS

More Than 26 Years Leading Marketing From Inside the Business.

I have built my career at the intersection of customers, technology, marketing strategy, digital experience, leadership, and business growth.

From global organizations including General Motors, Ford Motor Company, and Adobe to privately held manufacturers and professional service firms, I have worked inside very different businesses facing very different growth challenges.

What has remained consistent is the responsibility to understand the business, make better marketing decisions, lead talented people, and connect marketing to what the company is trying to accomplish.

MARKETING LEADERSHIP 26+ Years

A CAREER BUILT INSIDE COMPLEX ORGANIZATIONS

Different Companies. The Same Leadership Responsibility.

My experience across large global organizations and growing privately held businesses has shaped the way I think about marketing today.

GENERAL MOTORS

Global Digital Strategy

At General Motors, I helped shape global digital strategy across multiple brands, markets, and customer experiences.

FORD MOTOR COMPANY

Customer Loyalty and Engagement

At Ford Motor Company, I led customer loyalty and engagement initiatives connected to FordPass, helping strengthen customer relationships beyond the initial vehicle purchase.

ADOBE

Customer Experience and Marketing Technology

At Adobe, I worked with automotive manufacturers to connect customer experience, marketing technology, content, and data into more effective marketing ecosystems.

WHAT EXPERIENCE TAUGHT ME

Marketing Does Not Get Better Simply Because You Do More of It.

Large organizations have access to enormous teams, sophisticated technology, specialized agencies, significant budgets, and deep data. Growing companies often operate with fewer resources and much less room for wasted effort.

But both environments face many of the same leadership challenges. Priorities compete. Teams become disconnected. Agencies focus on their individual scopes. Sales and marketing see the customer differently. Data exists without creating clarity. Activity increases without necessarily improving the business result.

That is why I have never viewed marketing leadership as simply deciding which tactics to execute.

The real responsibility is creating clarity around where the business is going, what marketing needs to accomplish, who owns what, where resources should be focused, and how leadership will know whether it is working.

WHY COMPANIES HIRE ME

They Usually Have Marketing. What They Need Is Leadership.

Most companies I work with are not starting from zero. They already have people, agencies, technology, campaigns, websites, content, and ideas.

I Bring the Pieces Together.

I connect leadership, marketing, sales, agencies, technology, and execution around one clear direction instead of allowing each part of the organization to operate independently.

I Lead the People Already Doing the Work.

I do not automatically replace internal teams or agency partners. I provide the strategy, priorities, expectations, coaching, and accountability that allow good people to perform better.

I Bring an Executive Perspective.

Every marketing conversation eventually connects to a business decision. Growth, customers, investment, sales, positioning, resources, technology, and priorities all require executive judgment.

I Stay Accountable for Performance.

Marketing needs visibility. Leadership should understand what is happening, what is working, what is not, where investment should change, and what decisions need to happen next.

WHAT CLIENTS SAY

Leadership That Feels Like Part of the Business.

“Mark didn’t come in and try to replace our marketing team. He gave it direction. He quickly became part of our leadership team, helping us make better marketing decisions, align our priorities, and bring clarity to where we were investing our time and budget. The difference wasn’t more marketing. It was better marketing leadership.”

Steve W.
President, GTV

“Bringing Mark in as our Embedded Fractional CMO gave us something we didn’t have before: experienced marketing leadership. He quickly understood our business, challenged our thinking in the right ways, and helped us make smarter decisions about where we were investing our marketing efforts.”

David H.
President and CEO, eFund Insurance

“Mark approaches marketing like a business executive, not a vendor. Every conversation centered on growth, positioning, customer acquisition, and measurable business outcomes. He became a trusted strategic partner to our leadership team.”

Reese S.
Attorney, Counselor and Founder, The Private Firm

“What impressed me most was Mark’s ability to see the bigger picture. He didn’t jump straight into tactics. He took the time to understand the business, our audience, and where we wanted to grow before building a marketing strategy.”

Founder, 239 Presents

WHY I STARTED MICHIGAN CMO

Growing Companies Deserve Experienced Marketing Leadership Too.

Large organizations have access to experienced marketing executives. Many growing companies do not.

Instead, leadership is often forced to choose between hiring a full time marketing executive before the business is ready or relying almost entirely on agencies that are hired to execute individual parts of marketing but are not responsible for leading the entire function.

I created Michigan CMO to bridge that gap.

As an Embedded Fractional CMO, I become part of the leadership structure of the company. I help establish the strategy, lead the marketing team, manage agency partners, build missing capabilities, connect marketing with sales, and create accountability for performance.

The goal is simple: give growing companies access to experienced executive marketing leadership without requiring them to build an entire executive marketing organization first.
